Block and File-based Storage
a fully managed service – not a stack of hardware and licenses

Storage as a Service – Block and File-based – Executive Overview
B4Restore’s Block & File-based Storage as a Service replaces one-off storage projects with a governed, multi-tier storage platform delivered as a service from geo-separated Tier III data centers in Denmark. You get flash, disk and tape tiers for block and file-based workloads, with documented RPO/RTO, built-in backup and archive, and clear separation of duties between your production environment and our storage platform.
Storage as a Service – Focused on Outcomes, Not Complexity
Our approach prioritizes your business outcomes, removing technology complexity from your data storage strategy. Capacity scales from terabytes to multi-petabyte environments without new hardware cycles, and all operations are covered under ISO 27001/22301 and ISAE 3000/3402. The result is simple: predictable storage, proven recovery, and a risk posture that matches NIS2, DORA and GDPR expectations.

What You Get: Block & File-based Storage as a Service
We deliver block and file storage as a fully managed service – not a stack of hardware and licenses.
- Dedicated Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) platform for your organization, not a shared multi-tenant pool
- Support for block and file-based workloads: databases, HPC, analytics, user shares, applications, and archives
- Delivered from Danish/European Tier III data centers with redundant power, cooling and 24/7 monitoring
- B4Restore operates hardware, software, updates and 24/7 operations; your team consumes storage as a service.
Result: you keep control of data and workloads; we take full responsibility for storage availability, performance, and recoverability.
Storage as a Service – Performance Tiers for Every Workload
We align block and file performance with your actual workloads, not with generic “one-size-fits-all” arrays:
- Tier 1 – High Performance (Flash)
Flash-only storage for HPC-grade and latency-sensitive workloads.
Designed to deliver latency below >2 ms under full load. - Tier 2 – Standard Performance (HDD)
Balanced SSD/HDD tiers for core business systems and high user concurrency.
File latency below >5 ms under full load. - Tier 3 – Low Performance (Tape)
Cost-effective long-term storage for archive and cold data.
Latency targets in minutes, optimized for retention and compliance rather than IOPS.
Intelligent tiering moves data between tiers based on policies (activity, performance, cost) without manual intervention.

Storage as a Service with Built-in Snapshot, Replication, Archive and Backup
Block and file storage is not enough on its own. Our STaaS includes backup, replication, and archive capabilities by design:
- Daily or more frequent replication of data between primary and secondary sites; primary and replica data are geographically separated
- Archive tiers for long-term retention with policy-driven retention periods per archive, and options for WORM security
- Integrated backup capacity with documented RPO and RTO targets and tested restore procedures
- Proven restore throughput (e.g., minimum TB-per-hour restore guarantees) and options for prioritized restore sequences for critical datasets
Outcome: you can point to concrete restore objectives, test evidence, and documented procedures – not just “we have snapshots”.
Security, Separation of Duties and Compliance
Security and compliance are built into the service – not added afterwards.
- Three-layer Separation of Duties (SoD) between your production environment and our storage/backup platforms (logical, technological, and physical)
- Encryption in transit and at rest, dedicated credentials, no shared accounts
- Immutable storage (WORM) and air-gapped offline copies (tape) to protect against ransomware and insider threats
- Regular penetration tests, vulnerability scans, and an ISO 27005-based risk management process
This gives you an auditable security and compliance framework for storage – not just a technical platform.

Intelligent Storage Tiering, Snapshots, WORM, and Air Gap
Data protection on the storage layer is policy-driven and fully automated.
- Intelligent auto-tiering: data moves automatically between high, standard and archive tiers based on policies – no manual migrations
- Snapshots and versioning: snapshot schedules, previous versions, and retention of at least 180 snapshots over 180 days can be supported where required
- WORM/immutability for datasets requiring strong integrity guarantees (e.g., financial, legal, research data)
- Air-gapped tape copies: offline copies created on a daily basis for critical backup data, disconnected from any online system to withstand worst-case cyber incidents
All of this is configured as policies and executed automatically.
Scale Without Projects – From TB to Multi-PB
We design the STaaS platform to grow ahead of your demand.
- Platform proven at multi-petabyte scale (e.g., >10 PB usable storage capacity plus dedicated backup and archive pools)
- Capacity expansion is managed by B4Restore and delivered without downtime or customer-side projects
- Throughput scales with demand – starting at 20 Gbps and upwards depending on requirements
- Pricing based on logical GB usage and service tiers, enabling predictable OpEx instead of hardware refresh cycles
You notify us only in case of very steep, short-term step changes; otherwise, scaling is our responsibility.

Operations, Monitoring and B4R Storage Portal
Storage operations are run as a service with full visibility:
- 24/7 operations, service desk, and incident handling with clearly defined response times by tier and incident category
- Continuous capacity management and performance monitoring to prevent saturation before it impacts users
- B4R Storage Portal gives real-time insight into usage, performance, SLA status, and capacity trends – including reporting for daily, monthly, and annual overviews
- REST API options to integrate storage metrics and service control into your own tooling
You retain control and transparency while we carry operational responsibility.
Storage as a Service – Integration, Connectivity and Onboarding
We integrate with your existing environment and manage the transition:
- Support for SMB, NFS, S3 and other standard protocols used by your applications and file services
- Low-latency, high-bandwidth connections between your data centers and our locations (e.g., ≤1 ms latency and ≥10–100 Gbps link capacity where required)
- Structured migration: project plan, non-blocking network prerequisites, testing and cut-over with documented milestones.
The outcome is a controlled move from siloed, on-prem arrays to a governed STaaS platform with minimal disruption.

FAQ – B4Restore Storage as a Service
1. What is B4Restore’s Block & File-based Storage as a Service in practice?
It is a fully managed storage platform for your block- and file-based workloads, delivered from our Tier III data centers. We provide flash, disk and tape tiers, backup, replication, and archive capabilities, plus 24/7 operations and governance. You consume storage as a service; we take responsibility for design, scaling, monitoring, security, and recovery.
2. Which workloads does the service support?
We support a broad range of workloads: databases and line-of-business systems, HPC and analytics, user file services, research data, virtual machines, and long-term archives. Block and file-based access is provided via standard protocols.
3. How do you ensure performance for critical workloads?
We use three main tiers: high-performance Flash (Tier 1), standard performance HDD (Tier 2) and archive Tape (Tier 3). Tier 1 is designed for sub-2 ms latency, Tier 2 for sub-5 ms under load, while Tier 3 is optimized for capacity and long-term retention. Intelligent storage auto-tiering moves data across tiers based on policy, so you don’t have to manually shuffle data.
4. How are backup, replica and archive handled?
Backup, replication, and archive are part of the service, not separate projects. We provide dedicated backup and archive capacity, daily or more frequent replication between sites, documented RPO/RTO, and tested restore procedures. Archive data can be stored on disk or tape with WORM and defined retention periods to meet regulatory requirements.
5. What security and compliance guarantees do we get?
The platform is covered by ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 certifications, as well as annual ISAE 3000/3402 assurance reports. We align with NIS2, DORA and GDPR expectations, including data center controls, logging, and incident processes. On the technical side you get encryption at rest and in transit, strict separation of duties, immutable storage options, and air-gapped offline copies on tape.
6. What does Separation of Duties mean for our storage?
Your IT administrators manage your production environment only. B4Restore operates the storage and backup platforms. There are no shared admin rights or shared Active Directory. Backup and storage environments are logically and technologically separated from production, so a compromise in one cannot be used to control the other. This is a key protection against ransomware and insider risk.
7. How does scaling work – do we need new projects every time we grow?
No. We design the platform with headroom and scale it proactively. Capacity and throughput are expanded by B4Restore without downtime and without customer-side infrastructure projects. You pay based on logical GB usage and service tiers. Only very large, short-term step changes in capacity require early notice.
8. Where is our data stored?
Your data is stored in B4Restore’s Danish/European Tier III data centers with redundant infrastructure and 24/7 monitoring. Primary, replica, backup and archive data are geographically separated across sites to protect against local incidents and site-level failures.
9. How do we monitor usage, costs, and SLA compliance?
You get access to the B4R Storage Portal and APIs. The portal gives real-time insight into capacity, performance, SLA status, and trends, plus daily, monthly, and annual reports. We also provide structured meetings and reports to review usage, incidents, and capacity planning.
10. How is onboarding and migration handled?
Onboarding is run as a project with a defined plan: technical prerequisites, network interconnects, data migration, testing and cut-over. We design the migration to minimize disruption and to validate RPO/RTO and performance against your requirements before production switchover.
